pH is a figure expressing the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
If you’re looking for a more scientific definition, pH is “potential Hydrogren”. pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. If your water has a pH value of less than 7.0, your water is acidic. A value greater than 7.0, alkaline. Acid water, or low pH water, shortens the life of iron and copper plumbing, and causes blue or green stains on plumbing fixtures.
One important thing to keep in mind when considering the pH scale is, it is a measurement of intensity NOT one of quantity. It is an exponential function. In other words, a pH of 10 is 10 times as alkaline as a pH 9 and 100 times as alkaline as pH 8 and so on.
Acidic well water can be treated with a neutralizing filter, or a solution dispensing system feeding a neutralizing compound. Greco & Haines can analyze your water’s pH quickly and provide you with the most effective method for treatment.
